Barbier Security Group recognizes that a balance must be struck between the growth of its business and the impact it has on its environment. As a means of demonstrating its commitment to going green, Barbier Security Group has appointed Synergy Carbon, an international carbon strategy firm, to establish a baseline carbon footprint against which to develop a carbon emission reduction strategy. Implementing such a program reinforces its commitment to environmental stewardship and ensures it grows in a responsible and resource efficient manner.

The act of carbon foot-printing, or calculating all greenhouse-gases that are emitted as a result of business operations, has now become a common practice among businesses large and small. A well-defined carbon footprint has proven to be a clear, resonant and real indicator of sustainability in regards to resource and energy use as well as environmental impact.

After the initial calculation of Barbier Security Group's 2009 Greenhouse Gas emission profile it was uncovered that the majority of emissions were attributable to the use of fleet vehicles. Acknowledging this sector as having the largest potential for improvement, Barbier Security Group has created an innovative carbon policy that will reduce its carbon emissions by over 19% in this area alone.

Barbier Security Group has implemented a series of operational and technological changes that improve gas mileage and reduce unnecessary consumption of fossil fuels. Further, it has committed to buying only EPA certified fuel-efficient vehicles, which receive more than 35.5 miles per gallon.

Barbier Security Group has followed best practices in becoming a carbon neutral business. With the purchase of carbon credits from the Valley Wood Sustainable Forestry Offset Project in Brazil, Barbier Security Group has offset all of its 2009 greenhouse-gas emissions, making it a carbon neutral business.
